Amritsar, the Golden Temple and Wagah

Close enough to do over a weekend. The Golden Temple at first light, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Wagah border ceremony in the evening.

Package summary

Duration 3 days and 2 nights
Route Sirsa to Amritsar to Sirsa
Group size 2 to 17 travellers
Transport Air conditioned Dzire, Innova or tempo traveller
Stay Hotel within reach of the Golden Temple
Best time October to March

The shortest trip we run, and the one that suits a two day holiday. Amritsar is a comfortable drive from Sirsa, so you get two clear days there rather than two days in the car.

We put you in a hotel you can walk to the temple from, because the Golden Temple at five in the morning is the reason to come and nobody wants to arrange a taxi at that hour. The langar is worth eating at least once.

The Wagah border ceremony fills up early. We leave in good time and the driver knows where to park, which is most of the problem solved.

Day by day

1 Sirsa to Amritsar

A morning departure and a straightforward drive through Punjab. Check in by afternoon, then the Golden Temple in the evening when it is lit.

2 Amritsar and the border

Back at the temple before sunrise, which is the quietest and best hour. Jallianwala Bagh and the Partition Museum during the day, then Wagah for the evening ceremony.

3 Amritsar back to Sirsa

A last visit to the temple if you want one, then the drive home with a lunch stop.
