Package summary
Couples usually ask for Manali and then wish they had gone somewhere quieter. This is that somewhere. Same mountains, a fraction of the crowd.
Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj take two nights. The Bhagsu waterfall, the Dalai Lama temple and the cricket ground with the Dhauladhar behind it are all within easy reach.
Dalhousie and Khajjiar are the second half. Khajjiar is a meadow ringed by deodar with a small lake in the middle, and it is worth timing your arrival for the early morning before the day visitors get there.
Day by day
1 Sirsa to Dharamshala
A long first day through Punjab and up into Kangra. Check in by evening with the Dhauladhar range in front of you.
2 McLeod Ganj and Bhagsu
The Dalai Lama temple, the Bhagsunag waterfall and the market at McLeod Ganj. The afternoon is free.
3 Kangra valley
Kangra fort, the Masroor rock temples and the cricket stadium. A short driving day, deliberately.
4 Dharamshala to Dalhousie
Over to Chamba district through pine and deodar. Evening on the Dalhousie mall and at Panchpula.
5 Khajjiar
An early run up to Khajjiar so you get the meadow before the crowd. Kalatop on the way back if the weather holds.
6 Dalhousie back to Sirsa
Down through Pathankot and home across Punjab, with a lunch stop on the way.
